Letter From the Editor:
Dear Clients, Colleagues, and Friends:

This "First Annual Birol Bash" staged by Bricolage Theater was a special evening and is sure to become an annual event.

Special thanks goes out to Toast Restaurant for their great cuisine and hospitality and also to The City Heat Band from Cleveland, featuring Pittsburgh's own Cuda Brothers who tore the house down with their great classic rock!  I am grateful to my wife Joan and my daughter Margo who stole the show with her slide show.  Lastly, but certainly not least, I wish to thank all my clients, friends and colleagues who came from near and far to make this an unforgettable evening.

Trade Shows: Old-fashioned
social networks in the 21st century
Feature by Robert Lemose

"The three big lessons: Prepare before. Perform there. Follow up like a superstar," says Birol.

Partnership With many small businesses tracking their marketing dollars closely, attending a trade show may seem like an ill-considered indulgence at first glance. Registration costs, travel and hotel accommodations can easily run into a couple of thousand dollars per person. If you exhibit, the total cost could be five to 10 times higher.

Three Key Signs Your Shale Gas Opportunity is Growing
There's an old saying, "It takes 20 years to become an overnight sensation." Our confusing shale gas opportunity is a great example of this. Every day we hear "shale-chatter rants" on low gas prices, nagging environmental concerns and passive-aggressive government resistance; it's easy to dismiss the opportunity. But there's no doubt of three new signs of progress and many local firms are seizing their days now.

Here are the three inarguable signs and examples of local business exploiting these:

* It's a Demand-Side play: Additional polyethylene Cracker plants are coming.
* Anticipated development of midstream pipelines: The Pittsburgh Airport signs a $500 million shale gas lease.
* Conversions to gas: Giant Eagle announces they will put compressed natural gas pumps in Get-go stations.
